According to the transparency report published by Twitter, which claims “Twitter has suspended more than half a million users accounts since August 2015 to fight against terrorism”.
Over half of these suspensions were occurred during the last six months of 2016, when the company removed more than 376,890 accounts for violation of their policy regarding the promotion of terrorism. Twitter said that it was able to find 74percent of those accounts by using Twitter’s anti-spam tools. this tools reportedly determines the terrorism-related accounts, through the way it behaves, and not by what it publish, say that the account have “distinctive behavior”.
According to Twitter, the two percent of accounts were suspended on government requests.
The number of suspensions is more than three times than the social networking sites removed in last half an year in 2015.
In addition, Twitter says it has suspended 636,280 accounts from August 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016.
