On Friday, American courier company FedEx has reported that it was facing the problem with some of its Microsoft Windows systems, as a part of the global cyber attack which effected major hospitals in England and infected computer in dozens of other countries around the globe.
In a statement issued by FedEx representative which stated “Like many other companies, FedEx was facing the interference issue with some of our Windows-based system which caused by ransomware”.
“We’re implementing remediation measures as quick as possible” representative added.
Ransomware encrypted data on computers, was requiring payment of $ 300 to $ 600 to restore access. Security experts said they watched some victims paying with Bitcoin’s digital currency, although they did not know what percentage succumbed to extortionists.
Researchers at security software maker Avast said they had seen 57,000 infections in 99 countries, with Russia, Ukraine and Taiwan’s main objectives.
Some experts said the threat had receded for now, partly because a British researcher, who declined to give his name, registered a domain he noticed that malware was trying to connect, limiting the spread of the worm.
