The Chinese instant messenger app WeChat has revealed its new feature which, ‘will alert users if a news item circulating on its account is fake or not.’
The official’s familiar with this news told us that “The main aim of this feature is to fight with a fake news.”
“This feature will alert the users if a bite of news that they have received is proved faked by the Chinese censors board, police or social media firms.”
The feature will also function as a social game, ranking users based on how many rumor-debunking articles they have read.
“It will also alert users if a news item they send to their friends is later found to be false.”
Currently, WeChat has more than 900 million active users in China, and over 1.1 billion registered users till 2016.
