In an effort to protect the children’s from online sexual harassment, the Govt of India has ordered Internet service providers to immediately ban 3,500 sites with explicit contents as identified by surveillance groups in UK  on and before 31st July.

On Wednesday, The Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology of the Union has said that Internet Service Providers (ISps) include those who have an international gateway license  to use and operate it. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has prepared a list of 3,500 active URLs, which gets updated twice a day.

This statement is based on the recommendations of the Interagency Commission, set up by the Supreme Court in 2013. The Board has also highlighted that the majority of the child sexual abuse content is provided by this sites which are operated from overseas. The dynamic nature of these websites and URLs makes it difficult to track down and block those URLs.

At presents, India does not have a centralized mechanism for tracking child sexual abuse imagery or pornographic images.

This sites and URLs go to the IWF blocking list based on three categories which includes “Content that depicts rape, infiltration, intimidation, sex and other inappropriate images.

A state in western India has launched a mobile app for people to report child abuse, in an effort to protect children after a series of abuses came to light.Internet Service Providers Association of India president Rajesh Chharia, who was part of a group consulted by the government, said the Center had promised to pay the fee on their behalf, routed through the association.

When TOI contacted a member who was part of an inter-ministerial committee, he accepted the initiative with a vulnerability. “This is a temporary agreement until we have a centralized mechanism in place,” he said, like the identity.

For more than six months, the team has received 426 reports from users saying they have found sexually explicit content with children. Of these, 46 have been confirmed as having 33 child sexual abuse images. Rape abuse The three children are children under two years of age, with the largest number of sites being traced to the United States, followed by Russia and France.

By 2015, the government has banned 850 websites that refer to the Supreme Court’s recommendations to address child pornography, particularly child pornography.
