With the estimate cost of $82 million, RailCloud is designed by Rail PSU RailTel in an aim to increase server resources and its management.
Railway Ministry’s senior official said that “RailCloud technology will maximize the usage of available server and storage in accommodation of bigger data and more apps on same server space. Which will make the system more suitable to meet higher demand.”
Currently, All the IT applications are run on different servers which make it more costly.
Nivaran-Grievance Portal a state run transporter and also the first IT app to use RailCloud will launch tomorrow.
RailCloud will cover all management related to the various services like human resources, health and hospital, single assets, freight and logistics and energy are among them.
When reporters asked the official about the security aspect of the system, the official said that “It is a private cloud which has an inbuilt security system. In fact it will improve the security and reduce the overall cost by 30%.”
According to the latest government guidelines, the cloud will be equipped with security features. Security features can be updated at one time for all cloud-hosted apps, which can lead to better security and stability with less expenditure and effort.
RailCloud has paved the way for rapid deployment of applications within 24 hours compared to the conventional time of week and month.
Indian Railways have started a strategic IT initiative called IR-OneCT for enterprise-wide digital single platform with a view to improving customer satisfaction, improving revenue and effective, efficient and safe operation.
To achieve the goal of the single digital platform for the IR, there is a need to implement some basic projects first. Establishment of RailCloud is one of such project.
