Japan’s Softbank Group formally announced that they have reached an agreement with China’s ZTE to implement the field trial of 5G communication technologies in Tokyo.

Softbank and ZTE are primarily responsible for supporting the process under the leadership of the trial. Frequency is being tested 4.5GHz.

This is not for the first time when both (ZTE and Softbank) have merged with each other. The last collaboration was primarily done in the research and development of large capacity multi-input and multi-output technology, which is a basic technology for the 5G communication. Due to good cooperation relations between the two parties, Softbank and ZTE decided to combine the 5G area together.

There is a common belief that by 2020, 5G services will not be launched by telecom operators. Hence this will be later to enjoy the service for general users.

Based on the current situation, the technical basis for the 5G network is ready and some carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile, and US Cellular have started testing the 5G modem.
